Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Latoya is proud to call this community home. She is a graduate of William M. Raines High School, and her roots in Jacksonville have shaped both her values and her commitment to public service. Growing up in this city gave her a firsthand understanding of the communities the justice system serves and the importance of fairness within it.
Legal Experience and Professional Background
Latoya Williams Shelton pursued her legal education at Florida A&M University College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor and strengthened her commitment to a career in the legal profession.
Throughout her career, Latoya has worked to uphold the integrity of the judicial process and to ensure that the law is applied fairly and consistently. Her experience in the legal system has given her a clear understanding of the responsibility judges carry and the importance of approaching each case with preparation, professionalism, and sound judgment.
She believes that a judge must not only understand the law, but also demonstrate the temperament, patience, and fairness necessary to ensure that every individual who enters the courtroom is heard and treated equally under the law.

As a mother, partner, and active member of the Jacksonville community, Latoya understands the everyday experiences of the people she hopes to serve on the bench.
